THEY SAY. . . I SAY

Many people will not know what to say or do for you. Sometimes their natural reaction may be to avoid you because of their own discomfort; other times, they may say something inappropriate, avoid you, or just fumble with words.

Because of the possibility of encounters like these, you can want to isolate yourself simply so you don’t have to deal with them. This tool will give you a chance to put some of these interactions onto a page and begin to work with developing some answers to use. Maybe think of it as a 'script' to help you deal with some of the interactions you will have in the future.

The focus needs to be on taking care of yourself and what YOU need. Try to come up with some stock answers for some of the most statements. You can see the examples on the page. Having answers ready can make it much easier for you to respond, especially when you have little energy or desire.

Remember, communication goes both ways. People cannot read our mind. We have to identify what we need and then let others know. This is the way we help ourselves as well as those who love us.

WHAT THIS COULD HELP YOU WITH:

• Having a response ready when asked certain questions.

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT THINK ABOUT:

• Am I ready to ask for what I need?

Would I feel guilty about saying I'm feeling good on a better day?
